‘McConnell’s 5 Year Old’ was first established in Belfast in 1776 and was a hugely successful brand for over 150 years. Now the brand is thriving again and the team at Belfast Distillery Company is immersed in “Restoring The Legend”. Brothers John and James McConnell would be happy that the business they built in Belfast years ago is once more in excellent spirits. Aged 5 years, McConnell’s is a fine blend of Irish malt and grain whiskies which have been gently rested in select bourbon casks, bringing beautiful overtones of vanilla sweetness, ripe fruits, butterscotch, and pepper spice . . .
Our signature blended Irish Whisky is aged for 5 long years in handpicked, 1st fill, ex-bourbon barrels which add a delicate, subtle sweetness to the whisky and also provide a deep oak woodiness and light char to the finish.
Nose:
Light citrus notes, peppered spice and vanilla undertones.
Taste:
Earthy fruits, butterscotch and vanilla sweetness from bourbon barrels, white pepper followed by an oak woodiness.
Finish:
Sweet, spice, oak, with lingering ripe fruits.
ABV: 42%
Here are some of our favourites.
60 ml McConnell’s Irish Whisky
10 ml sugar syrup or a tsp. of Demerara sugar
1 dash of angostura & orange bitters
Garnish – orange peel
1. Stir the ingredients together in a mixing glass with ice.
2. Strain over a block of ice into a chilled rocks glass.
3. Express orange oils over the drink; use peel as a garnish.
50 ml McConnell’s Irish Whisky
1 dash of angostura & orange bitters
150 ml Spiced Orange Ginger Ale
1. Build the ingredients into a chilled highball glass over ice.
2. Stir in the bitters.
3. Garnish with a wedge of orange
40 ml McConnell’s Irish Whisky
10 ml elderflower liqueur
15 ml lime juice
15 ml sugar syrup
05 ml of saline or a sprinkle of salt
1. Add all the ingredients to a shaker with ice and shake vigorously.
2. Strain over fresh ice into a chilled rocks glass.
3. Garnish with lime peel.
35 ml McConnell’s Irish Whisky
10 ml lemon juice
10 ml lemongrass syrup
120 ml hot water
Sprig of thyme
1. Add whisky, lemon juice and lemongrass to a mug and stir.
2. Pour in the hot water and stir again.
3. Leave to set for 1-2 minutes.
4. Add thyme sprig to garnish.
